FAQs

What is clinical herbalism?

A clinical herbalist is a holistic practitioner that has extensive formal education and training that gives them a more technical and scientific approach to understanding the way herbs work, how the body responds, and what is necessary to support good health.

Are your herbs organic?

Mountain Mother Medicinals sources the highest quality organic herbs whenever feasible and the vast majority of our apothecary is made up of organic herbs. Some of our high quality herbs are locally grown or foraged and for that reason do not have a certified organic label attached to them.

Do you offer classes?

Yes! Classes and workshops have been put on hold due to the seriousness of community spread with the Covid19 pandemic but Mountain Mother Medicinals hopes to offer outdoor events when the pandemic is over.

To stay up to date on our classes, workshops, events, and other news, please use the form below to sign up for our news letter.

What does a clinical Consultation look like?

A clinical consultation with an herbalist looks very similar to a normal allopathic doctor appointment. Thats to say, Amber will collect a medical history and current medications list. She will talk to you about your current health concerns and the goals you have for yourself. Together you will come up with a holistic and herbal approach to adopt that will support those goals.

She will not be diagnosing anything so if you’re unsure of what you’re combatting, it is encouraged that you see a medical doctor to get that diagnosis before your herbal consultation so that you have a clearer picture to work from.

It is also important to know that Amber does not prescribe herbs as a course of treatment or cure. She educates you on herbs that may be an ally to you on your journey to better health and how to most appropriately use them.

can you guarantee there are no allergens in my product?

No, definitely not. Our products are manufactured in a facility that houses and produces products with hundreds of individual ingredients while also using shared equipment and tools. We do our best to sterilize these items before switching over to make a new product but we can not guarantee there has been no cross contamination.

are your products safe for children?

In short, yes and no. It really depends on the product. Unless otherwise stated, the majority of our products are formulated for adult use. This is to say that the dosage listed on the label is intended for adults. However, many of our products, while not marketed for children, are perfectly safe and even beneficial for kids. We always encourage you to reach out via the contact form if you have a question about whether or not a particular product is suitable for your child and if it is, what that dosage may look like.

do you use plastic packaging?

Mountain Mother Medicinals avoids plastic whenever feasible in manufacturing, packaging, and shipping. Our dropper bottles are glass, salve containers are metal, and bags are compostable kraft paper. We are constantly striving to improve in this area and have ambitions of one day being a plastic free company.

Are Herbs safe for everyone?

The short answer is yes and no.

Herbs, just like pharmaceuticals, have contraindications. It’s always best to talk with a trained clinical herbalist before adopting a new herbal product, especially internally. Many herbs are inappropriate to use if you’re pregnant, breastfeeding, have preexisting conditions, or take pharmaceutical drugs.

That said, there’s almost always a safe herbal alternative that holds the actions you’re desiring. It’s just a matter of knowing which herb is appropriate for you.

If you have any questions about a particular herbal product, please just contact us with your question and we will get back to you as soon as possible. Your safety is our top priority.

Do you use artificial Fragrance in your products?

No, never. The scents found in Mountain Mother Medicinals products come only from the botanicals themselves, the butters and oils they are made from, and the volatile oils within them.

Artificial fragrances disrupt the endocrine system so we advise avoiding them whenever possible.

Do you disclose yOur ingredients?

Absolutely, yes. You will find our ingredients list on labels and packaging as well as listed on the website so that you may have full disclosure before purchasing. It is only ethical that you should be informed and given choice as to what you put in and on your body.

Do you offer order Cancellations, refunds, or exchanges?

No, unfortunately not. While we stand by our products and strive to give every customer a positive shopping experience, we are not offering cancellations, refunds, or exchanges at this time.

Do you grow or forage your own Herbs?

Mountain Mother Medicinals does grow and responsibly forage some herbs for use in the clinic but it would be impossible to grow or forage the large volume of herbs needed to maintain the clinic and online shop. For this reason, we purchase the majority of our herbs from reputable sources.

Why is there a shopping bag in my box?

In a conscious effort to care for our environment and limit waste, Mountain Mother Medicinals will sometimes reuse plastic bags as packing materials in orders. You may also see re-used bubble mailers, packing foam, and various other shipping materials. We hope you may find even more ways to give these materials another life and keep them out of our landfills for as long as possible.

Is Amber a doctor?

No. Amber is a holistic practitioner specializing in clinical herbalism. She is not a medical doctor and does not have a license to practice medicine.

Allopathic medicine and holistic healthcare are not the same thing.

The allopathic approach is typically one that diagnoses disease and treats symptoms making you more comfortable living with the disease. Holistic healthcare aims to take that medical diagnosis and work on combatting the root cause by supporting the body with natural allies, such as herbs.

While there are definitely herbs that can and are used to address the discomfort of symptoms, it is always the goal to assist you in adopting healthier lifestyle habits that will ideally result in the reversal of disease where possible.

Are there artificial Colorants in your products?

No, absolutely not. Mountain Mother Medicinals believes there should be no unnecessary ingredients in products and does not use cosmetic additives or colorants. Any coloring you see in our products is a direct and natural result of the high-quality and beneficial ingredients that the product is made of.

what is your consultation policy?

All consultations are being conducted via telephone during the pandemic. All consultations are booked for Eastern Standard Time. We do not offer refunds for cancellations but we allow for appointments to be rescheduled up to two times provided the client notifies us of their need to reschedule 24 hours prior to their appointment time. Failure to reach out for rescheduling 24 hours in advance will result in the loss of your consultation fee should you be unreachable during your agreed upon appointment time.
